In general, any activity that could lead to injury or impede the enjoyment of other members is not permitted.

Discipline
General Rules
- No running, speed walking, skipping, etc. on pool decks
- No roughhousing, horseplay, or excessive splashing (minor splashing is permitted at the lifeguard’s discretion)
- No sitting or standing on someone else’s shoulders
- Safely throwing children straight up and down or a short distance out into the water is permitted at the lifeguard’s discretion
- No diving is allowed in the lower pool or the shallow half of the upper pool (diving under the supervision of a TCRC coach or swim instructor is permitted at the lifeguard’s discretion)
- Jumping into the pool must be done with feet hitting the water first; no leaning back
- Jumping over stairs in the wading area is permitted (at the lifeguard’s discretion) if done safely
- Floats and baby pool toys are permitted only in the baby pool area
- Tennis balls and water guns are not allowed in the pool areas
- Squishy balls and underwater toys are permitted (at the lifeguard’s discretion) if used appropriately
- Kickboards and noodles are only allowed during open swim if they are being used for instructive purposes
- No children (under 18) are allowed to cut through the lap lane to enter or exit the pool, even if the lane is empty
- No hanging on the lap lane or the wading area rope
Diving Board Rules
- No goggles are allowed while using diving boards
- No Floatation devices of any kind allowed
- Only one person is allowed on the board at a time
- No double bouncing is allowed – only one jump and then dive
- No running on the diving board (max 4 step approach)
- No sitting on the board (bottom of feet must be touching the board)
- No diving to the side of the board; only straight out into the water
- Must start and stay either forwards or backwards on board (no jumping from front to back)
- Catching balls off the board is permitted (at the lifeguard’s discretion) if done safely
- After going off the board, divers must swim to the side of the pool (not to the back of the pool)
- No one is to hang off the end of the diving board
- Either use diving boards OR swim in the well – both cannot be done at the same time
Slide Rules
- Children under the age of 5 must be supervised by an adult to use the slide
- Lifejackets and coast guard approved floatation devices are permitted, but no other floatation devices
- Goggles are allowed on the slides at the lifeguard’s discretion
- Only one person allowed in slide at a time
- Must stay on your back on the slide and slide feet first
- No stopping or slowing down in the tube
- No swimming in front of or under the slides; sliders must swim to the wall next to the slide they use
- No one is to hang off the end of the slide
Discipline
- 1st offense – whistle & warning – make sure the member understands the rule and offer safe alternatives
- 2nd offense – sit out number of minutes equal to child’s age – make sure to explain why they are being punished without displaying any anger
- 3rd offense – meet the manager – any disrespectful behavior or talking back can and should lead directly to this disciplinary tactic regardless of # of offenses
